I liked the feel of the tatami mats and how it is multi-purpose but the pieces kept sliding away from each easily and I have to constantly fix it. It would be nice if it was connected somehow and was foldable.

Wow, this is just what I was looking for, without knowing it actually existed. After years of back pain, I first replaced my mattress with a Zonli futon mattress. But my foundation had slats that were spaced apart 4 or 5 inches, allowing the futon mattress to sink in between. So I ordered the tatami mats and voila! End of back pain! I am sleeping on the most comfortable bed I've had in at least 7 years. My foundation suits in my bed frame and provides needed height, and the tatami mat sits on top on it, with the futon on top of that. It is perfect.
